About Us

Amberley Playgroup is a thriving community Playgroup, that is situated in the village of Amberley, near Stroud (Gloucestershire). Both the Playgroup and the Toddler group are run by friendly, professional and fully qualified staff, supported by a voluntary committee of parents, who are involved in the management of the group. The playgroup is registered with Ofsted, to provide care for up to 24 children at each session, from the age of 2 years 6 months until they start school.
The Playgroup employs 5 staff, all holding relevant child care or teaching qualifications and with many years experience in a wide range of settings. Each session runs with a high staff:children ratio in excess of that required by legislation, to enable a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities to take place. Amberley is surrounded by National Trust Common land and this is used to enhance the learning opportunities for the children whenever possible. Both the Playgroup and Toddler group run from the Parish Rooms in Amberley, which is a large and well maintained venue, central to local facilities.

The Playgroup staff follow the practice guidance of the Early Years Foundation Stage and comply with all statutory requirements regarding the children’s learning, development and welfare. The last three inspections by Ofsted rated the playgroup ‘outstanding’ in all categories, the most recent inspection being in November 2015. The Playgroup also have a full range of policies and procedures in place, that are reviewed regularly to ensure they reflect current practices and legislation. The Playgroup is managed by a voluntary Committee of parents who are responsible for employing the staff and are fully involved with decision making within the group. Through successful fundraising activities the group is able to purchase high quality equipment that enables the children to have a varied and stimulating experience whilst being cared for by highly qualified and enthusiastic staff. The staff form close partnerships with parents through this committee involvement, and through the rota of helpers at each session. This adds to the unique and supportive atmosphere of the playgroup that is commented on by so many people.
